About Us
The Charlestown Mothers Association was
started in 1997 when a few Charlestown
moms with young children [Katie Bigelow,
Bettine Boyd, Amanda
de Costerd, Kristina
Gallant, Sue Hardy Nea Hoyt, Julia Keirnan,
Suzanne Morris and Suzy O'Brien] began a moms
morning out, which became a successful way for
these moms to run a few errands and also allowed
their children to socialize. This endeavor worked
so well that they expanded it to a mom's night out
with monthly dinners at local restaurants. The idea
caught on, and the membership grew. In 2000 we
incorporated as a non-profit organization with the goal
of preserving Charlestown as a safe, clean and happy
environment to raise families.
What started with a small group of moms has grown to a
membership of over 600 familes, and we have just passed
our 10th year anniversary! We still have mom 's night out
once a month but we also contribute in many other ways to
our community by:
| • |
Supporting the continued success and existence of our
neighborhood parks, schools, theater and youth sports. |
| • |
We host and/or participate in community events for families
such as: our annual Spring Egg Hunt, Family Picnic, and Holiday
Party, as well as the Halloween Parade, Summer Concerts, and more. |
| • |
We support the college education of students from Charlestown by
by offering an one annual scholarship for $2500, along with two
$1000 scholarships
and smaller grants for summer camps
for neighborhood children. |
| • |
We partner with other community groups to support and
contribute to their good work for families such as the
Charlestown Lacrosse & Learning Center, The Boys & Girls
Club, Charlestown Against Drugs, the Neighborhood Watch
program, our local public schools, and many others. |
We are happy to say that three of the original eight families still call Charlestown home and the others still come back for events and are proud to see what the Charlestown Mothers Association has become in the community! |
