A Letter from the President
Thank You for your interest and support for the Charlestown Mothers Association! We host our 2011 Annual Fundraising Gala on October 22nd at Max & Dylans! This event is the collection of many months of hard work and fundraising by volunteers and Board Members who are all dedicated to the vision of making Charlestown a wonderful place for families to live and grow. Your support ensures the vibrancy and continued growth of the Charlestown Mothers Association. We are a unique organization, we are run by a 100% volunteer board, we do not charge membership fees and we owe our success to the dedication of our membership and the Charlestown community to help us run the events we host.
Please allow us to share how we fulfilled our mission with the funds so generously donated in the past year!

College Scholarships: In 2011, we were able to expand our college scholarships, awarding 5 scholarships totaling $6,000. Erin McLaughlin received $2,500 toward her studies at Bunker Hill Community College, while Caitlin Kelly, Sijing Lei, and Taylor Mahoney all received $1,000. Leisa Loan was our third place recipient and was awarded $500. They are an impressive, hardworking group of young women. |

Camp Scholarships: $3,550 was allocated to camp scholarships this year. Several scholarships were made available to campers through the Charlestown Community Center and local Girl Scout Troops. The CMA also continued its tradition of sponsoring Charlestown campers at Agassiz Village, an overnight camp in Poland, Maine. Eight Charlestown residents attended camp for one week through our support. |

Support of Community Organizations and Outreach: The CMA works with many of the other wonderful organizations in Charlestown that work to improve the lives of the community. With over $10,000 given in donations, the CMA has supported organizations including Harvest on the Vine, The Community Center, Charlestown Life Focus Center, Special Townies, The Charlestown Lacrosse and Learning Center, Little League, Rookie League, Youth Football and Cheerleading, The Kennedy Center, Boston Inner City Children’s Choir, Charlestown Votes, CHAD, The Boys and Girls Club, the Charlestown Working Theater and others. We also use our extensive email list to help raise awareness for local needs as well as using it to our membership informed of local happenings and issues pertinent to Charlestown families. |

Parks/Library: CMA representatives work tirelessly to make sure the City improves our parks/playgrounds and libraries by attending Community Meetings and communicating Charlestown’s needs to local politicians. The CMA spent over $700 this year on new toys Doherty Park, Looney Park and the Navy Yard Park. The CMA was also instrumental in getting the City to hire our wonderful new children’s librarian. |

Community Events: The Charlestown Mothers Association hosts over 35 events per year. Including the Spring Egg Hunt, Patriots Day Parade, Spring Shopping Night, Halloween, Touch a Truck Day, Meet the Schools, Trip To Spectacle Island, Annual Holiday Party, Annual CMA Gala, Monthly New Moms Breakfasts and Monthly Moms Nights Out, in addition to Speakers Series and joint activities with community partners. The CMA Board is a working board of 100% volunteer moms – all of whom lead very busy lives! All of our events could not take place without the help and dedication of our membership and friends of the community. |

Meet the Schools: We hosted this biannual even in September at the Charlestown Community Center. We hosted over 50 local schools from preschool through 8th grade and over 200 families from the Charlestown and other neighborhoods. |
The Charlestown Mothers Association is a true community-based organization. With over 1,000 families in our membership, all located within the one square mile of Charlestown, we are one of the largest community mothers associations in the country! In the past 3 years, we have seen the average age of a child in the CMA go from 2 to 5 and we continue to welcome new members as in the past year our membership has gone from 850 to 1,000 families. We are delighted to introduce this year’s new Board members: Lynne Souter, Ann Herrar, Sue Lacey & Deanna Sutton. We are always looking for new volunteers and members to help plan and grow our organization, please feel free to reach out to any of us.
Sincerely,
