A Letter from the President  The Charlestown Mothers Association (the “CMA”) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization run exclusively by unpaid volunteers, all Charlestown moms, who are dedicated to strengthening community bonds and ensuring that Charlestown remains a safe and enjoyable place to raise children. In just ten years, our membership has grown from nine founding families to more than 600 families! We are so grateful to the original group of moms who got it all started. We finished off 2007 with a bang. We hosted the first public tree lighting and caroling event at City Square Park, which featured appearances by the Charlestown Working Theater cast and the Warren-Prescott School Chorus. We also saw many of you at our annual holiday party at the skating rink. Special guest appearances included Blades the Bear and a musical appearance by Ben Rudnick & Friends.
In 2007, we also began distributing new baby welcome baskets to all new CMA members! We are an ever growing group, and we distributed 65 baskets to new mothers in just nine months! This year we added an autographed copy of the book Goodnight Boston! We also expanded our Board to include Council members in 2007. We were so impressed by the level of interest we received to replace our vacated board positions, we invited each person to participate in our newly formed council to fulfill new roles and expand the initiatives we can undertake. We now have 9 council members, in addition to our 13-person board! In January 2008, we opened the community Play Space at the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club for the second year to outstanding community interest and above expectation enrollments. This continues to be the only community run play space in the city. In March and April alone we sponsored the Egg Hunt in Shipyard Park in the Navy Yard for the second consecutive year, a new Touch a Truck Event at Bunker Hill Community College and a Patriot's Day celebration in City Square Park! We are delighted to launch our new website! We hope you find it useful to share information, reach out to your neighbors, keep up to date with upcoming events and become involved in our many initiatives and events. Please let us know if you are interested in assisting with the council responsibilities. With over 600 CMA members, we welcome your ideas and your energy to help us organize one or more of the many events or initiatives we offer throughout the year!
