Letter from the Co-Presidents

cma-logo-imgDear Charlestown Neighbors & Friends,

Thank you for your continued support of the CMA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  We have the honor of being co-presidents of the CMA, and are proud to support our Charlestown neighborhood with our Board of Directors and countless volunteers who all work tireless on the many programs, activities and donations that the CMA was able to make over the past year.  Thanks to the generosity of our membership and our sponsors, the CMA has been able to support our Charlestown Community and the over 1300 families in our membership!

The CMA is run exclusively by unpaid volunteers dedicated to strengthening the community bonds in our Charlestown neighborhood. Even within just our one square mile of Charlestown- we are one of the largest community mothers associations in the country. The CMA remains free to join for those families in Charlestown. We welcome parents (Dads, too!!) who would like to get involved planning and executing our events and hope you will not hesitate to reach out to us to get involved.

The CMA continues to grow as families come to appreciate that Charlestown is a neighborhood like no other.  It is a vibrant, safe and diverse community with great schools, parks, history, activities and neighbors. The CMA continues to be a platform for parents to organize in order to impact positive change in our neighborhood. We also work closely with our dedicated elected officials, police and fire departments and truly appreciate all of their support. The CMA is one of many amazing organizations in Charlestown and we are lucky to partner with organizations like CSAC, CHAD, Park friends and others.

Over the past year, events that the CMA organized or sponsored for local families include: Touch-a-Truck Day, Patriot’s Day Celebration, Spring Egg Hunt, Picnics and Concerts, Halloween, and new Mom’s events. We have provided toys for our parks such as Eden Street and Peter Looney and supported amazing young Charlestown women and men with over $9000 of college and $2000 of Summer Camp Scholarships to Charlestown’s younger residents. The CMA is also proud to support a number of community organizations and events over the past year, Harvest on Vine, The Charlestown Community Center, Charlestown Lacrosse and Learning Center, The Kennedy Center, Unity Day, The Charlestown Boys and Girls Club, Charlestown Working Theatre, our local schools’ programs and many others.

The CMA’s 18th Annual Gala is coming up on Saturday November 5th at the EF Building on the Charlestown-Cambridge border. This is the CMA’s 18th Gala and we are here thanks to the support, contribution and dedication of our Charlestown Friends and Neighbors. Everyone is invited—please bring your friends. The Gala is our largest fundraiser annually and the funds we generate through the Gala are crucial to the programs and support we are able to provide to the Community for the rest of the year.  Please consider a donation to our live and silent auctions, becoming a Corporate Sponsor or  advertising your Company’s products or services in our event program.

Finally, we cannot thank the CMA Board Members enough. These women happily spend much of their time, volunteering their time for our Community; taking time away from their own children, partners and day jobs to do so:  Abby Belge, Jenna Carroll (Secretary), Laura Carroll, Suzanne Crowther, Katie Darci, Beth DuBuque (Treasurer), Jessica DeRoeve, Shannon Fitzgerald, Rebecca Love (former President), Bridget Nyhan, and Jennifer Roycroft Pires.

We look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors at the Gala!
Best Regards,

Jennifer Rossi
