The Charlestown Mothers Association is led by a volunteer Board of Directors which ranges from 10-13 members who serve two year terms. The current Board is comprised of 10 members. Please meet Charlestown’s biggest fans below.

Leigh Hurd

Co-President

Leigh has lived in Charlestown for 13 years and has been a CMA Board member since December 2005. Leigh grew up in the ‘burbs’ locally in Sharon before settling in the city with her family. She is married to Doug and has 3 children: Braden, a 3rd grader at the International School of Boston, Sienna, a 1st grader at the International School of Boston, and Grayson, born March 2010, who can be found out and about Charlestown at the parks and taking advantage of all the great local gym and music programs. She has her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Boston College and works as a Portfolio Manager for a local financial services firm. Leigh loves her long summer beach days in Ogunquit, Maine, skiing with her family during the winter, and exercising whenever she can (less and less these days unfortunately)! When not working or attending CMA events, Leigh can be found enjoying all Charlestown has to offer families including travel soccer for her son, local playgrounds, or our great local restaurants!

Rebecca Love

Co-President

Rebecca has lived in Charlestown for the past seven years and has been on the board since January 2010. She currently lives in Charlestown with her husband Jim, and her two children, Colette 2 and Mitchell 6 months old, and their dog Lexi. Rebecca is an Adult Nurse Practitioner who currently works as a full time Professor of nursing at a local College. Rebecca grew up in Michigan, came to Boston for College and has settled in Charlestown to raise her family. In her free time she loves to spend long summer days on the beach, traveling with her family or reading a good book. When not attending or organizing a CMA event, you can find her at one of the many parks in Charlestown with the kids in tow or attending a local political or community event.

Sarah Newlin

Secretary

Sarah has lived in Charlestown since September 2008 when she relocated from New York City with her husband Nick. Their three children -- son Gilly born two weeks after their move and twins Phoebe and Lucy, born in 2010 -- are all happily Charlestown natives! Sarah has been on the board since January 2010. Prior to becoming a mom, Sarah worked in higher education marketing and product management. She now divides her week between being a stay-at-home mom and a work-at-home mom. She also holds a master's degree in Social Work from New York University. In her spare time, Sarah likes to sail (she and her husband share a sailboat with two other couples) and travel. Sarah loves Charlestown’s neighborhood, yet urban, feel. She's particularly fond of the fact that Charlestown boasts a wonderful mix of families who have lived here for generations and new residents from all over the world. Sarah is often found at one of Charlestown’s many playgrounds or out for a walk with 1, 2 or all 3 of her kids. .

She is a structural and materials engineer who specializes in repair and restoration of historic buildings (Boston is the perfect place!). When she is not participating in CMA events, she loves to travel, bake (but not cook…), and read, especially enjoying suspense novels and historical fiction. On the weekends she and her family can be found exploring all the playgrounds Charlestown has to offer; bouncing from one with swings to another with the best slide, all decided by their 2.5 year old. She loves that whichever playground they end up at, odds are they will see someone we know.
